ERLANGER CHAPEL

Erlanger Health System needed a new chapel for their patients, employees, donors, volunteers, and visitors. They tasked HK Architects with creating a non-denominational space for prayer and reflection. We collaborated with artist Daud Akhriev and his son Timur Akhriev to create a curved feature wall, covered in hundreds of hand-painted mosaic tiles. Entering the chapel, visitors are greeted by a table with a vessel made by Mr. Akhriev for prayer requests. The oval-shaped room also includes a storage area, retractable projection screen, and a welcoming wooden entryway that’s accessible to all, including bariatric patients in gurneys. Inset with abstract stained glass windows and painted with white marble dust, the exterior walls glow, creating a sacred space that welcomes everyone.
