With the Chattanooga Housing Authority, we designed North Chattanooga’s Fairmount Avenue Townhomes to provide low-income housing in compliance with Enterprise Green Communities Criteria. Awarded the USGBC’s LEED Platinum Certification, the four-unit buildings are sited to make use of passive solar heating and cooling, with white clapboard siding, energy efficient windows and doors, and Kynar-coated standing seam metal roofs. Photovoltaic panels provide 10% of the project’s energy. With the exception of one FHA accessible unit, Fairmount’s 18 two- and three-bedroom units are all two-stories. Three all-weather pathways have pervious paving to minimize runoff, and a cistern captures stormwater to maintain the native landscaping.
